We reviewed an IM application called Palringo and we were very impressed with the way it worked. Palringo has given one more reason for us to rejoice after it has realesed an updated version which now supports Push-to-Talk which is basically the voice equivalent of SMS. Palringo has now brought this feature on an Apple iPhone for the very first time. Palringo had earlier mentioned that they are in the process of releasing a new version with some more features but no one expected it to incorporate Push-to-Talk into it.
Some of the new features in the latest version are as follows:
- Vocal Instant Messaging
- Ability to sign out of other IM services
- Encryption of account details
- Higher resolution photo messaging ( up to 640×640 )
- Chat bubbles
- Better UI
- Ability to save photos
- and, it does not stop the iPod app from playing on start
Mobile carriers like Verizon and Sprint in USA have been promoting their own push-to-talk services but they are not favored by the consumers because it locks them to a particular device and the specific carrier. Palringo however is completely carrier independent and works on almost all the latest handsets.
